Embryo transfer

TE-equin-2.jpgIn the early 80s, IMV Technologies launched an experimental farm at La Sapaie where numerous teams from all over the world have come to train on the most modern machines and techniques for non-surgical bovine embryo transfer.

Starting from a donor cow’s embryo, with a high value of genetic potential, multiple descendent lines can be created either to replace the herd faster, or for the resale of the frozen embryos. The increased egg production in cows inseminated by a high quality genetic bull allows several veal embryos from “Elite” parents to be obtained from a single transfer.
This technique, commonly used today, quickens the diffusion of favored genetic traits. Lately this technique was also successfully implemented on horses in partnership with INRA. Many owners prefer this technique to shortening the career of their competition mare. In this case a lesser mare becomes a carrier to the higher mare’s embryo.

25 years later, embryo transfer involves numerous species including water buffalo, camel, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits...

Always at the forefront of innovation, IMV Technologies is also present and active in R&D for preservation techniques, cryo-preservation of embryos with respect for biosecurity and embryo databases.
